Challenge and reflection for middle leaders

This programme is aimed at current middle leaders at secondary level. The programme provides an opportunity to network with other middle leaders and to reflect on your own practice and direction. Sessions will be themed and led by senior leaders or experienced middle leaders with expertise in a range of fields however sessions will be focused around group discussion and individual reflection.

The programme will run over four sessions. Each sessions will run from 4pm-5.30pm at Winterbourne Academy. Sessions 1 and 3 will be cross-phase sessions whilst sessions 2 and 4 will split into departmental and pastoral groups.

The programme includes topics such as:

- Reflecting on my actions and leadership approach.

- Challenge: what challenges are faced and what challenges have I set myself?

- How do I use research to inform decisions in my area of focus?

- Curriculum intent, implementation and impact in my area of focus.

- Developing culture and getting buy in.

- Making an impact on the progress and experience of disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND.

TA subject knowledge network: skills for mentoring

 

This cross-phase session will provide guidance on a range of skills which are relevant for support staff who provide mentoring for pupils. Topics are likely to include: the growth mindset; understanding ACEs; building relationships; using coaching skills.

The session will run from 4pm-5.30pm at Winterbourne Academy.

Improving Secondary Science

This programme, provided jointly by West Somerset Research School and the Science Learning Partnership at SPTS, provides an in-depth exploration of the seven accessible recommendations made in the EEF’s Improving Secondary Science Guidance Report, published in 2018.

Each session helps practitioners understand and use the recommendations in effective ways to improve attainment in science and science teaching.
