MELC in science (biology)

This secondary making every lesson count programme includes four teaching and learning sessions tailored to science with a focus on biology.

The programme covers the following areas:

- Make learning stick!  How to maximise learning in your subject through cognitive science.  This includes the effective use of modelling, interleaving, low stakes, quizzes, spacing, the effective use of graphics and so forth.

- Get the meaning?  This session will focus on maximising learning using disciplinary literacy in lessons. For example, how do you make sure learners understand key terms in a range of contexts?  How can learners work out the meaning of words themselves using etymology?  Can learners grasp different text structures and features in my subect?

- How do I provide effective feedback and still have a life?  The session focuses on AfL and effective feedback whilst managing teacher workload.

- The group will collectively decide whether to use the final session as a teachmeet or subject knowledge session.

Each of the four sessions will run from 4pm-5.30pm at Winterbourne Academy. Please make a note in your diary of all dates:
