Identifying pupils' misconceptions in fractions

Designed to enable teachers to explore common misconceptions in fractions and decimals, and the implications for teaching.  Delivered by Lorraine Woolen the course will look closely at:

  • common challenges and misconceptions held by children in this aspect of mathematics and implications for teaching;
  • different models of fractions, including commutativity of fractions as ‘operators’, that is: of 3 equals 3 times
  • the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages.
